Careers and volunteering

Careers

Who Targets Me tends to staff up for elections on a contract basis. Typically, this involves us adding people who can help with:

  • Building software
  • Analysing data
  • Helping with digital and traditional communications
  • Researching campaigns
  • Developing policy responses

If you’re interested in working with us in one or more of these areas, please get in touch.

Data classification

One of the backbones of Who Targets Me’s work is identifying political advertisers and their affiliations in our datasets.

This involves:

  • Reviewing pipelines of new political advertisers identified by our systems
  • Researching the affiliations of those advertisers
  • Classifying them appropriately
  • Using our tools to build reports and dashboards

This role is ideal for undergraduate politics (or related subjects) students looking for a few hours a week of work on top of their studies, but we’ll consider any relevant interest or experience. Strong English language skills are required.

Hourly pay is at least the Real London Living Wage (or whatever the legal minimum wage is in your location, if higher). We’ll provide training, ongoing support and a reference for future work (if that’s helpful).

If you want to help with this, please get in touch with a basic CV or description of your experience.

Volunteering

We are always looking for volunteers to help us, particularly with maintaining versions of our tools (browser extension, Trends tool that tracks spending and targeting). Specifically, we are looking for people to help us tag data about political advertisers (which parties and groups they are associated with) as well as maintain accurate translations of our tools.

If you want to help with this, please get in touch.
